Blackburn Rovers Fans Get Honest Answers from New CEO Steve Curwood

Blackburn Rovers fans have finally heard from new Chief Executive Steve Curwood, who sat down with RoversTV to answer supporters' questions about the future of the club. In a 25-minute interview, Curwood discussed club finances, plans to overcome their budget, and rebuilding relationships with supporters.

His Background and Role at Rovers

Curwood is a genuine football supporter from the North West, which resonates with Rovers fans. He didn't hide his support for Blackpool growing up, and his summer following England in America and his trip to the Azteca were engaging topics. He made it clear that he will work collaboratively with the other senior figure, while being accountable for his decisions.

The Reality of Rovers' Finances

Curwood didn't sugarcoat the reality of Rovers' finances, stating that they have a bottom-six budget, with revenues generated at £11million. He emphasized that they need to recruit better, think smarter, and find new avenues to rival the competition. Curwood also mentioned that they will have to lean heavily on player trading and the Academy to make up the shortfall to compete.

A Plan for the Future

Curwood made it clear that Rovers will have to invest the funds wisely and manage contracts better. He emphasized that they have an opportunity to progress the football club during this next season and in the long term, they want to formulate a plan to go back to the Premier League. He believes that his job over the next six months is to support all the departments and the football department to present something to the owners, which is maybe tangible, that they can work towards a Premier League team for the future.

Communication with Supporters

Curwood spoke about regaining fans' trust, showing a willingness to engage by opening himself to events to discuss the transfer window after it had finished. He emphasized that none of this is rocket-science stuff but will be welcome. Gregg Broughton earned plaudits because he would explain Rovers' plan, and supporters, and indeed the media, would much rather be told what's going on.
