Blackburn Rovers eye Sam Morsy transfer boost
Blackburn Rovers are in talks with free agent Sam Morsy to strengthen their midfield. The 34-year-old midfielder remains unattached after leaving Bristol City in the summer.
Why it matters for Blackburn Rovers
Blackburn Rovers are in the market for midfield reinforcements after losing Sondre Tronstad. Morsy would bring a wealth of Championship experience and has a promotion on his CV with Ipswich Town.
What comes next?
Tony Mowbray, the Blackburn Rovers manager, admitted it is a deal that the club may do to add 'another man' into the team. 'I'm not sure, to be honest,' he said when asked if they were set to sign Morsy. 'I'll always be honest with you. Sam Morsy is somebody I've spoken to, had a chat with. He's a very confident boy, he's got real belief in his ability. At 34, I think he's got real confidence in his physicality. I think there's a potential for that to happen.'
What does it mean for the team?
Mowbray feels like Rovers need a bit more experience on the pitch and believes someone of Morsy's ilk could provide what they need. 'I think this team, somewhere along the line, probably needs one more, what I call, a man in the team,' he admitted. 'A soldier, because I can see the things he can't do, but I can see the things every footballer can't do, but you put them on the pitch because of the things they can do.'
Blackburn Rovers' recent form
Blackburn Rovers have made a decent start to the season, with 42 goals scored and 56 conceded, leaving them 43 points behind leaders Coventry. They have shown resilience in their recent matches, including a comeback win in the Carabao Cup, where Andri Gudjohnsen and Jayden Fevrier scored twice in the last 10 minutes to secure a win.
Transfer talks continue
Mowbray was pleased to have seen his side progress into round two of the Carabao Cup, but the focus remains on strengthening the squad. The transfer talks with Morsy are ongoing, and the club is eager to add more experience to their midfield.
