| As the 2026-27 Championship season approaches, Blackburn Rovers are facing a pressing issue: replacing Balazs Toth, who has turned down a new contract. With the club struggling to find a suitable replacement, we've identified three goalkeepers who could be on the radar at Ewood Park.
The 2025-26 loan man Moussa Baradji is the only senior incoming to date, leaving fans concerned about the team's goalkeeping situation. With Toth's departure, Rovers will need to source a replacement swiftly to avoid losing him for nothing in 2027.
Who should Blackburn Rovers target if Balazs Toth departs? We put forward three goalkeepers who could be a good fit for the club.
Who should Blackburn Rovers target if Balazs Toth departs?
It is a well-known fact that Blackburn Rovers aren’t flush for cash this summer transfer window. That could make a loan signing ideal for the goalkeeper position, and in that case, Vitezslav Jaros could be a target to consider. The 25-year-old is back at Liverpool again after a year on loan with Ajax, and it seems most likely that he is allowed out on a temporary basis. Jaros starred in a spell with Australian side Sturm Graz previously and his experience should make him a solid option for Championship football.
If Rovers would prefer a bit more Championship experience, then Christian Walton is a target to consider. Not only is he familiar with the club from a past loan spell, but it was also under the lead of Tony Mowbray. After a tough couple of years, Walton reclaimed his starting spot at Ipswich Town as they won promotion from the Championship last season. The 30-year-old kept 16 clean sheets in 37 league games but looks poised to be displaced by the incoming Kjell Scherpen, potentially leaving him open to offers.
Last but not least is a bit more of a left-field option. However, Blackburn Rovers have looked overseas for smart buys in recent windows and to uncover a goalkeeping gem, one player on their radar should be Xavier Dziekonski of Polish side Korona Kielce. Aged 22, he has become their starter and one of the Ekstraklasa’s best goalkeeping talents. Dziekonski stood out last season and now has a year left on his contract. Although there is an option to extend, Rovers could splash on a number one for the long-term who could yield a big profit in the future.
Xavier Dziekonski’s 2025/26 standout stats
Losing Toth will be a blow for Blackburn Rovers. However, given his ability and contract situation, some sections of the Ewood Park faithful won’t be too surprised if he heads for pastures new this summer. The most important thing for Rovers is ensuring that he is appropriately replaced. There will be doubts if Aynsley Pears reclaims the starting berth, and more cover and competition will be required beyond promising youngster Nick Michalski. Rovers will be sure to have replacements on the radar, and Jaros, Walton and Dziekonski are all worth considering.
