Blackburn Rovers are being urged to sign free agent midfielder Archie Collins as Tony Mowbray prepares for his first full season in charge at Ewood Park. The Taunton-born midfielder, 26, is available on a free transfer after leaving Peterborough United in League One and has drawn interest from several Championship clubs.
Why should Blackburn sign Archie Collins?
Collins has been linked with Millwall, Watford and Portsmouth in the Championship, as well as Sheffield Wednesday, Reading and Huddersfield Town in League One. Blackburn Rovers, currently 20th in the Championship with 52 points from 46 games and a recent run of LWDLD, need midfield reinforcements after Lewis Baker and Sondre Tronstad left the club.
The ex-Middlesbrough man would not cost a fee, freeing up funds for other targets. Collins could compete with Moussa Baradji, Kristi Montgomery and Sidnei Tavares for a starting spot. He needs regular game time, which Blackburn can offer at a higher level than League One.
What has Archie Collins done so far?
Collins joined Peterborough United in 2023 and became one of their key players. Before that, he broke into the Exeter City first team as a youngster. His versatility and energy make him a strong option for Mowbray’s system.
What’s next for Blackburn?
Blackburn are not rushing into deals and are waiting for the right players to become available. Collins’ availability on a free transfer makes him a shrewd target. Mowbray will look to add depth before the 2026/27 season kicks off, with Rovers needing to improve on their 42 goals scored and -14 goal difference from last term.
League standing: 20th in Championship, 52 points, 13 wins, 13 draws and 20 losses from 46 games, recent form LWDLD.
