Blackburn Rovers manager Tony Mowbray has revealed that midfielder Jake Garrett has impressed him in pre-season, with the 23-year-old's hard work and aggression catching the eye. Garrett has emerged as a winner from pre-season, impressing in the final game at Huddersfield Town, where he scored the equaliser and showed his intensity on the ball and in tackles. Mowbray has detailed his talks with Garrett and his desire to simplify the midfielder's game, with the manager wanting him to focus on tackling people and giving the ball to a blue and white shirt. Garrett has long been known for liking a hard tackle, and with the midfield pecking order wide open, injury to Moussa Baradji and the absence of Sidnei Tavares has created an opportunity for him to start against Burton Albion. Mowbray is willing to give Garrett the opportunity to do so, and has revealed the instructions he's given to the young midfielder to ensure he's as effective as possible. The manager wants Garrett to bring his natural inbred aggression to the game and pass the ball simply because he's got a nice left foot. With the team currently 20th in the Championship, 52 points from 46 games, and 43 points behind leaders Coventry, Mowbray is looking for his team to show more periods of sustained pressure in their matches.
