Former Blackburn Rovers midfielder Arnor Sigurdsson has signed for Greek side Kalamata. The 27-year-old Icelandic midfielder departed Ewood Park in February 2025. He spent the last 16 months at Malmö in Sweden, scoring twice in 27 appearances.

What happened?

Sigurdsson joined Rovers in the summer of 2023 from CSKA Moscow on an initial loan deal. He made the move permanent several months later, scoring 7 goals in his first season. However, he slipped down the pecking order when John Eustace was in charge.

Why it matters for Blackburn Rovers

The midfielder's contract was cancelled by mutual consent after he was left out of the Championship squad. As of 30 Jun 2026, Blackburn Rovers sit 20th in the Championship with 52 points from 46 games. Their recent form is LWDLD, with 42 goals scored and 56 conceded, resulting in a -14 goal difference.

What comes next?

Kalamata secured a return to the top flight of Greek football after 25 years away by winning promotion from the Super League 2 South Group. Sigurdsson will continue his career with the Greek side, while Blackburn Rovers look to improve their standing in the Championship. The team is currently 43 points behind leaders Coventry.
