Blackburn Rovers have appointed Mike Dodds as their new assistant head coach, reuniting him with Tony Mowbray. The pair previously worked together at Sunderland.

What happened?

Mike Dodds is excited to work with Tony Mowbray again after becoming Blackburn Rovers’ assistant head coach. He had a spell in charge at Wycombe Wanderers and as assistant at Oxford United.

Why it matters for Blackburn Rovers

Dodds says as soon as he got the phone call from Mowbray, he knew it was an opportunity that he needed to explore. He had some time on the grass with the players and they seem like a really good group.

What comes next?

Mowbray and his coaching staff now have a full pre-season to work with the group and put their stamp on things before the Championship campaign gets under way at Wolves on August 14. The current league standing is: | Category | Value | | --- | --- | | League standing | 20th in Championship | | Points | 52 | | Recent form | LWDLD | | Goals scored | 42 | | Goals conceded | 56 | | Goal difference | -14 | | Title race | 43 points behind leaders Coventry | Dodds will now work closely with Damien Johnson, who has been coaching at the club for over a decade.
